Young Poets Competition

Swan Library announces the 23rd Annual EVELYN L. LYMAN YOUNG POETS COMPETITION for youth within the library service area of the four central towns of Orleans County (Albion, Barre, Carlton and Gaines). The competition will be held during March and April 2010 with poems being accepted until Wednesday, April 7th   at 8PM with an awards presentation and reading by winners on Thursday, April 29th at 7:00 PM at the Christ Church, 26 South Main Street, Albion.

Guidelines are as follows for:
Category I      - poems by children ages 6 - 9.
Category II    - poems by young people ages 10 - 12.
Category III  - poems by young people ages 13 - 15.
Category IV  - poems by young people ages 16 -18.

  1. Each participant may submit one original poem.
  2. Winning poems will be selected from each category to be read by their authors, who will receive a cash prize.  Poems will be judged by a published poet.
  3. All poems submitted must be typed on white unlined 8 ½” x 11” paper
  4. Each poem submitted must include the poet’s name, address, phone number, age and category in the upper left hand corner of the page.
  5.  Poems submitted will be kept in the library’s files.  Authors are reminded to make copies for their own files.
  6. To qualify, poems must be submitted to Swan Library by 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. If mailed, entries must reach the library by the deadline.

All participants are invited to attend the Awards Presentation with parents, grandparents, teachers and friends.  The public is also invited to attend.

Should typing be a hardship, Swan Library
has several computers available for public use.
