Computer Lab Policy
The Swan Library provides computers for public use. This gives patrons the technology to achieve their word processing, spreadsheet and graphics needs, and provides a window to the world of state-of-the-art information and education.

All users of the library's computer resources, both staff and members and patrons, are expected to use these resources correctly and only for legal and ethical purposes. Any misuse of the computers will result in loss of privileges. Unlawful activities will be dealt with in an appropriate manner.

Registration form is included with library card registration and available at the Circulation Desk.

*The Swan Library does not have the right or authority to act in place of the parent and encourages parents to supervise their children's use of the Internet, accepting responsibility for determining content with personal and individual family values and boundaries. Only parents or legal guardians may restrict their child from access to Internet resources available through library computers.

Lab Rules:

    1. Violation of any applicable federal, state, or local laws.
    2. Each patron is allowed a total of 90 minutes per day.
    3. Destruction or damage to equipment, software, or data belonging to the library.
    4. Changing any settings on the library computers.
    5. Gaining or attempting to gain unauthorized access to any computing devices or resources.
    6. Computer users are encouraged to remember that the Swan Library is a public space, with access by patrons of all ages. Therefore, sexually explicit or pornographic sites should not be accessed to prevent exposure to young children and others who find such sites offensive.
    7. Consequences for patrons who break these rules are:
    - 1st offense: results in a verbal warning
    - 2nd offense: patron loses computer privileges for 2 weeks.
    - 3rd offense: patron loses computer privileges for 1 year.
    8. Computers are available for 1/2 hour time periods during regular business hours. This includes downloading and printing times. Additional time may be assigned if no other persons are waiting to use the computer.
    9. Only one person will be allowed on a computer at one time.
    10. Privacy of computer users is to be respected.
    11. Printing charges are $.05 per page for black/white printing and $.50 a page for color. Floppy Discs may be purchased for $.50 and CDs for $1.00.

     

    Computer Classes
    The Swan Library often holds FREE computer training to the community. Classes vary from Intro to Computers, Intro to the Internet as well as software training. Please call the library at 585-589-4246 for upcoming classes. Registration is required for all computer training due to limited amount of computer terminals.
